Wayne Ridden welcomes Terence Parkin on his arrival from Johannesburg on his epic journey of 902kms -8 miles of the aQuelle Midmar Mile this weekend, run to the start of the Dusi Canoe Marathon on Monday and paddle to Durban over the 3 days!! Well done Terence! A true example of a sportsperson giving back to the community! For those who do not know who Terence is, here is a quick update.
Terence was born in Bulawayo Zimbabwe in 1980 but moved to South Africa where he excelled in swimming (particularly breaststroke) and won a silver medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He was coached by Graham Hill in Durban and swam for Seagulls. He is the most decorated deaf swimmer at the Deaflympics and is currently working with Princess Charlene of Monaco (also born in Bulawayo) raising awareness for the Prevention of Drowning. The World Health Organisation advises that 40 people drown every hour – frightening statistics.
